How to remove 'apple.com-scan[.]live' from Mac?
What is 'apple.com-scan[.]live'?
apple.com-scan[.]live is a scam website designed to trick people into downloading a potentially unwanted application (PUA) called Cleanup-My Mac. The site displays a fake virus alert stating that the Mac computer is infected with some viruses that should be removed immediately. This website (or apps promoted though it) should not be trusted. Typically, apple.com-scan[.]live is visited when people are redirected to it by PUAs already installed on their systems. These apps usually feed users with advertisements and gather information relating to their browsing habits.

apple.com-scan[.]live first displays a pop-up window stating that it has detected a trojan virus (e.tre456_worm_osx) and urges visitors to begin the repair process immediately. When this pop-up is closed, the website itself encourages visitors to scan their systems by clicking the 'Scan Now' button. It then states that the system is infected with three viruses that it has detected: two malware infections and one phishing/spyware computer infection that can cause data and financial loss. To avoid any possible damage, users are encouraged to scan their systems within five minutes. When the 'Scan Now' button is clicked, it starts to run a fake virus scan. When finished, it displays scan results stating that it has detected the Tapsnake, CronDNS, and Dubfishicv viruses. The apple.com-scan[.]live website encourages people to download the Advanced Mac Cleaner application by clicking the 'REMOVE VIRUSES NOW' button, however, this actually leads to download of Cleanup-My Mac. Note that apple.com-scan[.]live and apps promoted should not be trusted.
Generally, installed PUAs also serve users with various intrusive advertisements such as pop-ups, banners, coupons, surveys, and others. Once clicked, these ads open dubious, potentially malicious websites or run scripts designed to download and install other unwanted applications. In summary, clicking ads displayed by PUAs (or on dubious pages) can lead to unwanted installations or even computer infections. PUAs can also perform data tracking when installed. They gather information relating to browsing habits such as IP addresses, geolocations, entered search queries, ULRs of visited sites, and so on. Developers share the details with other parties - potentially, cyber criminals. These misuse the data to generate revenue. If installed, PUAs cause problems with privacy, browsing safety, and can even lead to identity theft.

How did potentially unwanted applications install on my computer?
PUAs can be installed through clicked intrusive ads (that are capable of executing particular scripts), however, they are also downloaded and installed together with other, regular software. This happens when developers use a deceptive marketing method called 'bundling'. They do not disclose information about bundled/additionally-included programs and hide them in 'Custom', 'Advanced', or other similar settings of the download or installation set-ups. Furthermore, people often cause unwanted installations and downloads when they leave available setup settings unchanged.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Avoid downloading software (especially if it is free) from unofficial or untrustworthy websites, using torrents, eMule or other Peer-to-Peer networks, or third party downloaders. Download using official sources (websites) and direct links. Do not leave available 'Custom', 'Advanced', and other similar options of the download/installation setup unchecked. Avoid clicking ads displayed on dubious pages, since they often lead to adult dating, pornography, gambling, and other, similar untrustworthy websites. If redirects happen without clicking ads, or ads appear continually, check all extensions, add-ons, and plug-ins installed on the browser and programs on the computer. Remove any unwanted/suspicious applications immediately. If your computer is already infected with PUAs, we recommend running a scan withCombo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate them.

- For a week I have been driving myself nuts attempting to fix whatever issue plagued my computer. I am very suspicious of any pop ups and ads. Never touch them. Using my own computer savvy and apple forum resources, I could never find the suspected files. In fact, I was most certain I had fixed the issue, but not before I messed up ALL of my other settings..this out of desperation. I just completed a quick scan and it identified 29 adware and other threats which included the elusive MacCleanUp files loaded onto my hard drive. Some of the files could not be removed via the program itself, however the Antivirus Zap directory did the work for me. It searched and directed me to the exact folder, which I could put in the trash myself. I deleted the trash and hope for no further issues. I am writing this review as I am completing this but confident this will be the last of the PUP.
- Thank Goodness for this app! I was ready to lose my mind trying to figure out how this happened. In my preferences it said google was my search and I could not find bing anywhere. After I finished the scan I should have restarted my computer and I didn’t and bing was still searching. I wrote the support team and I got the answer that resolved the problem. I ran the scan again and restarted the computer and it was gone. Tom was so helpful and kind. I am so thankful to the app and amazing support team. Thank You Tom!
- Two of my favorite things to say about an app is that it is easy to use and that they do a good or great job. This is one of those apps. I know I had to pay for it but compaired to some of the higher rated security apps, this ones best. Only one thing would make it better an that would be it would be free. It has caught viruses and moe that the following security software/apps has missed: Sophos, McFee Security, Fyde, Adguard Pro, and Trend. Now maybe some of those would have caught the viruses, content shield, and more. I don’t know what made me actually pay for this app when I only wanted the free version with the others, it doesn’t really matter. What matters is I feel that it is doing a good job and it does give you the option for quick scans, or extensive scans, which is nice.
- AntiVirus Zap made it so easy to remove malicious malware from my brand new MacBook Pro. I was having a very annoying problem where every time I started a google search it redirected to a bing search. I downloaded the app and immediately started and ran the program. It took about 15 minutes to scan my brand new computer but it found the infected software and removed it. If it could not be removed by the app itself, I was given simple directions so I could delete the infected/malicious software as well. I cannot recommend the AntiVirus Zap app enough. It is simply incredible. Thanks to everyone who developed it. Have a great 2019.
- I had this virus on my computer called Torvi and it kept redirecting me to different pages and also giving me unwanted pop-up windows. I am not very experienced when it comes to computers and navigating through finder to find the Torvi file in itself would be a nearly impossible task in its own. As a result, I decided to try this program out to save myself the time and most importantly my precious computer. Not only did Antivirus Zap find the infected file but also 50 other infected files that I had no idea were hiding in my computer. Paying only 6 dollars to ensure that your computer runs smoothly is not only worth it but I believe it’s a necessity. You never know what can be lurking in your computer, especially unapproved spyware. That being said, I strongly recommend this program to anyone facing computer difficulties or to anyone that just wants to clean their computer. The only downside to this program is that it does not give you an estimated time on how long the scan will take. However, you can pause the scan at any time and immediately delete the infected files the scan found.
